Guide to change your blogspot.com to dot.tk in Blogger

Guide to change your blogspot.com to dot.tk in Blogger

Are you publishing your blog with Blogger.com? Are you feeling that your long domain name like your-blogname.blogspot.com, giving you bad reputation at many points of view? If your answer is yes! Then you came to right place and read out my post.

Why should I change to custom domain?

Search engines except Google, rest of all will never result your blogspot well at their listing. Social networking sites don’t like your blogspot.com tag when compared with top level domain. They don’t love to back link you. Moreover, the blogspot.com domains are blocked by some Internet service providers including China. You can also get custom e-mail like admin@your-domain.com with Google Apps. So this time, I am posting step by step guide to set up a custom domain using Dot.tk.

Guide to set up a Dot Tk custom domain using free DNS service:

Registering Dot Tk Domain:

Step-I:
  1. Go to Dot.tk website.
  2. Enter your preferred Dot Tk domain name and click Go. If entered domain is available, you will be promoted for further steps.
  3. Dot Tk domain registration panel
  4. Now it shows availability of your domain.  For free domain you need to produce minimum of 25 hits per 90 days. Free domain has same services as paid domain. Select your choice and move on to next step.
  5. Dot tk sign up
  6. Enter your blogspot URL and set registration length as 12 months. Now sign up with Dot Tk. Here you have to verify your Dot Tk account by email or you can also use social Networking accounts like facebook, yahoo, flicker etc.

Dot Tk settings in Blogger:

Step-II:
  1. Log on to your blogger account.
  2. Adding custom domain
  3. Go to Settings and find Publishing option in your dashboard. Now click on Add a Custom Domain. You will be prompted to buy a domain for your blog.
  4. Blogger custom domain settings
  5. Simply click on Switch to advanced settings. Then enter your Dot Tk domain with www in the place of www.filmyhub.tk (as shown in the picture). Now you have to verify domain ownership by adding two CNAME records. For this, click on Settings instructions. You will be landed to a page that having dynamically generated CNAME valus with detailed set up instructions.

DNS Configurations in Dot TK:

Step-III:
  1. Now log on to your Dot Tk account and click on Domain Panel. It gives the list of your Dot Tk Domains. Now, click on Modify option to configure DNS Settings for your domain.
  2. DNS settings in DOT TK
  3. Here, you will get a pop up window of Domain settings. Select Dot TK DNS Service and configure your DNS settings like above shown screenshot according to your domain name. You will find dynamically generated CNAME values in below image.
  4. DNS settings in Blogger
  5. For the first CNAME, enter Host Name as "www" and IP address as "ghs.google.com". It is fixed for any blog. Second CNAME record needs dynamically generated values. It means Host name with dynamically generated name (which is highlighted in blue) and IP Address with dynamically generated value like "gv-xxxxx.domainverify.googlehosted.com" (which is highlighted in pink). These fields are different for different blogs. Do not forget  to select record type as CNAME record.
  6. To make your naked domain available, you have to add A record with following details. select record type as A record, then fill Host Name field with your dot tk domain without www (example: filmyhub.tk ) and IP address as 216.239.32.21
  7. Before you move onto next step, wait about 30 min or an hour for your DNS settings to activate.

Saving Custom Domain settings in Blogger:

Step-IV:
  1. Again go to advacned settings that configured in second step under publishing and save them. If you get any error, come back after some time and save settings.
  2. custom domain settings in Blogger
  3. Once you are done with saving, under publishing edit your custom domain and set redirection option by putting tick mark as shown in picture.
  4. If you have any trouble in following any step, put a comment that helps me to catch you back.

Puppy Linux: Installing The Distro....

Installing Puppy Linux

Ready, Set, Go!

With the Puppy Linux Distro burned onto a CD from its downloaded ISO image, and a computer that is ready and willing to accept this fascinating little Linux-based distribution, you are now ready to commence the installation process. And while there are a few options available for end-users to choose from during the installation, it is always advisable to stick to the default settings offered during the installation process.
Before commencing, make sure that your computer is capable of booting from the CD-ROM. You will first need to run the Live CD version before installing it. This is also a good practice run to ensure that your hardware is capable of running Puppy Linux.

Booting From CD
  • Insert your Puppy Linux CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
  • Power up your system and allow it to boot from the CD.
During the initial boot from CD, you will only be prompted for a select number of variables. Additionally, the selection process also provides detailed information on the available options, allowing you to make the proper decision. But, it is advisable to choose those options they recommend, as they have been proven to be highly effective and operational over the other available options.
  • Select the keyboard layout you are using (the default setting is QWERTY - USA).
  • Select the XORG graphics mode.
  • Select the default resolution setting (this is typically 1024x768x16).
Following the resolution settings, you will be greeted with the Puppy Linux desktop. Notice the pink colored bar across the top center. Click on it to get a quick "How To" tutorial about Puppy Linux. But if you prefer to jump right in and permanently install it on your hard drive... follow me.

Hard Drive Installation

Puppy Linux

Install To Hard Drive
Puppy Linux has a really neat feature called the Puppy Universal Installer. This is an installation wizard designed for the purpose of installing Puppy Linux on a number of different devices: from USB flash drives to CDs and even the hard drive. Today we will focus on installing Puppy Linux on your hard drive. The process will also depend on variables you will supply answers to: selecting default settings where applicable and/or recommended.
  • Right click on your desktop, and under Setup, select Puppy Universal installer.
  • From the available media options, select Internal (IDE or SATA) hard drive.
  • Choose the drive you wish to install it to, if more than one is displayed.
  • Puppy Linux will display the specifications of the drive you are about to use.
NOTE: It is highly advisable to install on a hard drive that has been formated with either EXT2 or EXT3 file system. If your hard drive is not reflecting either of these file systems, you should run GParted application to correct this.
  • When ready to install onto the hard drive, click the icon next to Install Puppy to... (Please note that the drive description could change from one system to another based on configuration. In the case of most older single IDE drive based computers, this will typically display as SDA1.)
  • Acknowledge your selection to install the distro to the hard drive by clicking on the OK button.
  • Select the CD option on the next window. This tells the wizard where the installation files reside.
  • Make sure the CD is still in the drive and click OK to proceed.
  • Select the FULL installation option to install Puppy Linux on the entire drive. (Although the Wizard recommends the Frugal option, it is best to dedicate the entire drive to Puppy Linux, since this is what we are actually aiming to do. If you prefer to run the Frugal option, you will need to choose partition sizes and other variables that may not be suitable for beginners. More experienced Linux users will typically choose the Frugal option.)
  • Puppy Linux will begin its installation to the hard drive and prompt you when it is done.
  • For its booting option, select Install/Update GRUB.
  • Select Install to proceed; then choose OK at the next window to confirm.
  • For the GRUB Configuration, choose the default simple value and click on OK.
  • Choose the default standard resolution and click on OK.
  • For the GRUB partition, keep the default path and click OK.
  • For the GRUB destination, keep the default Root value and click OK.
  • When the installation is complete, you will see the GRUB INSTALL SUCCESS window. Click OK.
  • You may be prompted to reinstall GRUB. If so, simply select No to exit.

Finalizing The Installation

Making Puppy Linux Bootable From Your Hard Drive
When done, reboot the computer. During this first reboot following the installation, you will be prompted to save a few configuration files.
  • Save your session by selecting SAVE TO FILE.
  • On the warning message that follows, select OK to proceed.
  • Keep the default partition to create the pup_save.2fs file and select OK to proceed.
  • Allow the system to generate its own name for the file... just select OK without entering anything in the blank field.
  • Select Normal for no encryption.
  • Keep the default value of 512MB for the personal save file and select OK to proceed.
  • Verify your settings in the Final Insanity Check window and select YES, SAVE to finalize.
  • The last part of the install asks if you wish to install other save files onto the hard drive. Before responding, make sure that the CD is back in the drive and select Yes. (Depending on the size of these files, the process will take a little while to complete. This is normal.)
  • Once complete, the system will complete the reboot process that was previously initiated.
Booting Up For The First Time
Following the reboot, Puppy Linux will display a couple of options following the Linux choice. Unless there is a booting problem, there is no need to choose any of the GRUB related options. Simply press the enter key on this screen to continue the booting process.
During the very first boot of Puppy Linux, you may be prompted to select the keyboard, video mode and resolutions. Choose the default values and proceed to boot into Puppy Linux. Following this initial boot, you will not see these 3 variables prompt you for a selection again, unless a corresponding piece of hardware is modified and the OS detects it.
You are now officially ready to enjoy Puppy Linux!

Make Up Over Your Windows Look Like Ubuntu

If you are using a dual boot system with Ubuntu and Windows, you can clearly notice the limitations Linux has. And for many (myself included), Linux is extremely difficult. After awhile I came to the conclusion that I didn’t need ubuntu at all, but I still loved to look and feeling, after searching for ways to make my windows computer have that gnome feeling this is what I found:

Start with the visual style, if you haven’t already install Uxtheme Multipatcher, this will remove the limitations on your system, in order to install new themes. Then download the Human Visual Style Ubuntu Linux.

Go to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes and safe your download theme in there.

Now right click on your Desktop and click on Properties. Go to Appearance and select Human as the theme.

Now change the icons, first install Icontweaker, after that install Ubuntu Icontweaker theme.

Next, change the wallpaper on your desktop, get the Ubuntu wallpaper Here or Here.

To replace the icons for Windows Explorer, first install Styler toolbar(free), get the Ubuntu Human Theme for Styler.

Now get the famous Ubuntu Cursor

Now, what everybody wants. The alternative to Beryl on Linux. Get it Here, and get that “3D CUBE” effect.

To change the boot screen download BootSkin (it’s free): Get it Here.
And download the Ubuntu Bootskin:

To get Ubuntu Logon screen go here.

For Mozilla Firefox Web Browser, you can install the Ubuntu Theme, for Thunderbird or Dapper Retouched for Opera.

Make Windows XP Look Like Fedora Linux!

Every now and again I post software to transform your boring Windows box and make it look like something cooler. A few months ago I wrote about the Vista Transformation pack for those of you not willing to endure the pain of Vista, but still want the prettiness of it. Not too long after that I wrote about a tool bar to make your Windows XP box look more like MAC OSX, and somewhere in the comments somebody mentioned yet another method.

What about you Linux fans? Do you have all things linux at home, but at your day job you are forced into a world of Windows? Would you like to take some of your dignity back? If so, I have something cool for you.

It is the Fedora Transformation Pack for Windows XP. It is a skin that makes Windows look a lot like Fedora Linux. You can impress your friends, and show your ultimate geekyness by making Windows XP look like Linux.

I read a while back about some other packs like this, including one for Ubuntu. I will try to track it down and write about that at a later time. Until then, enjoy your new Fedora look!
